What this calculator estimates
This calculator quotes the all-in replacement price for a residential gutter and downspout system in 2026 US dollars. It separates the bill into the line items a real contractor invoices — and unlike a first-time installation, replacement always includes tear-off, fascia inspection, and almost always drip edge replacement.
- Tear-off — labor and dump fees to remove the existing gutters and downspouts. Always included for a true replacement project.
- Fascia repair — new fascia board material and labor where the existing wood has rotted from chronic gutter overflow. The condition selector estimates 0%, 15%, or 40% of the run.
- Drip edge — new drip edge or kick-out flashing where the old material is bent, rusted, or attached to the old gutter system.

How to use it
- Measure your linear length. Sum every eave where gutters run. Walk the perimeter with a tape and add each side. A 1,500-square-foot rectangular ranch is typically 140–170 linear feet. A two-storey colonial often runs 200–280 linear feet.
- Count corners and miters. Each inside or outside corner needs a custom-cut miter — adds 30 minutes of crew time and a $15–$25 fitting. Most homes have 4–8 corners.
- Pick the new profile and material. K-style aluminum is the US default. Switch to half-round only for matching a historic architecture, or copper for high-end applications.

Cost drivers
Fascia repair extent. This is the biggest variable in replacement projects. Sound fascia means $0 added. Partial rot (15% of the run replaced) typically adds $300–$700. Extensive rot (40% replaced) adds $900–$2,200 — at which point you should also be asking your contractor about soffit and roof-edge sheathing, because chronic overflow rarely stays confined to fascia.
Material gauge and thickness. Builder-grade 0.025-inch aluminum is the bottom of the seamless market. Step up to 0.027-inch (most reputable contractors’ default) or 0.032-inch heavy-gauge for high-snow or hail-prone regions. Each step up adds roughly $0.50–$1 per linear foot but reduces dent risk meaningfully.
Profile complexity. Half-round gutters cost 15–25% more than K-style because they require external hidden hangers (no flat back) and shipped lengths. Box and fascia profiles add 20–30%.
Storey height and access. A two-storey roof typically takes 10% longer than single-storey because of ladder repositioning. Three-storey adds 25%. Roofs requiring full scaffold rather than ladder access can double access overhead — and a scaffold rental adds $400–$1,200 to the project.
Tear-off and disposal. Removal of existing gutters adds roughly 60% of new-install labor and a $50–$120 dump fee. Steel gutters are heavier than aluminum and add 15–20 minutes per 10-foot section.
