Editorial and calculator standards
RoofingCalculatorHQ publishes free estimating tools and explanatory guides for homeowners, estimators and contractors. Editorial responsibility sits with the RoofingCalculatorHQ editorial team. We do not present the team as licensed roofers, engineers, building surveyors or code officials. Our work is independent educational material, not a substitute for a site inspection, engineered design, code ruling or contractor quote.
How calculators are built
Each calculator starts with an explicit estimating model: the user inputs, unit conversions, geometry or quantity formula, waste allowance, labour and material assumptions, and the result range. We test ordinary and boundary inputs, check unit conversions, and compare sample results with worked industry examples. Where a result depends on roof condition, access, structural design, local code or contractor practice, the page explains that limitation beside the calculator.
Price and technical source hierarchy
We prefer sources in this order:
- Government, standards bodies, building-code publishers and manufacturer technical documents.
- Public datasets and established industry research with a stated collection method.
- Current supplier, distributor and contractor price evidence for the relevant market.
- Secondary cost references used only as a reasonableness check.
A single national average is not silently reused worldwide. Market versions account for the local currency, customary units, taxes, labour conditions, common materials, climate and applicable regulatory context. Prices are planning ranges rather than promises: a real quotation can change because of access, roof condition, disposal, permits, structural work and product availability.
Localisation and review
Localised pages are reviewed as separate market documents, not treated as word-for-word translations. We check currency, terminology, measurement units, climate assumptions, named regulations and internal links. A translated support page that has not received a substantive local review is kept out of search indexing until it is ready.
Dates, changes and corrections
Content pages display their latest published or reviewed date. Material changes include formula corrections, revised market prices, code or incentive changes and replaced sources. Minor spelling or formatting edits may not change the date. If a source becomes unavailable or a claim cannot be substantiated, we revise or remove it rather than preserve a false level of precision.

The site may display Google AdSense advertising. Advertising does not determine calculator outputs, source selection or editorial conclusions. We do not sell favourable rankings in guides or adjust estimates for advertisers.
